Historical Background: The commune is situated on a rocky slope over the Aventino and Sangro valleys. It was built during the Middle Ages when it became a fortification (still visible are the ruins of the town walls); it was a feud of several powerful families, such as the Corona and Carafa. The centre was structured as a fortified village during the 13 th century. For a long time it represented a strategic point and, together with Roccascalegna and Casoli part of a unique defensive system. Then it became a property of the Del Balzo, Cantelmo and Carafa. Stretched along the cliffs of a rocky slopes, included in the so-called olive oil Track because of its excellent production, the village still preserves many elements which reveal its medieval structure.
