Historical Background: This commune is situated in the wonderful Valle dell’Orta. The river next to the village creates an extraordinary water environment, with rapids which drives into the rocky cracks and a waterfall covered with lush musk, which gained this waterfall the name of Emerald.Founded during the Middle Ages, the village was for a long time under the influence of the powerful abbey of St.Clemente a Casauria, which gave it its present structure, although it was already an Italic and Longobard settlement. The fortification developed during the centuries around the baronial palace and the 12th-century of St. Maria Entro Terra. The village boasts Roman origins, testified by several archaeological findings of the district St. Liberata and St. Anzino. During the Middle Ages it was under the control of the Abbey of St. Clemente a Csauria. A feud of the Caracciolo, it was successively ruled by the Branconi, Di Filippo and Durini.Bolognano is situated on a rise over the Orta Valley, in the area of a nature reserve which protects an extraordinary water habitat appreciated by the Kayak fans.
