Historical Background: Not far away from the town of Chieti, Bucchianico lies on a hill between the rivers Alento and Foro, in particular area which is rich in calanchi, erosion slopes (ravines) narrow and deep in the clayey soil. Bucchianico is mostly an agricultural village and there are many vineyards and olive groves. The commune has medieval origins and the first official documents in which it is mentioned date back to the 11th century. For a long time Bucchianico belonged to the town of Chieti, from which it separated as a consequence of a battle which still recalled today in the historical revival of the Banderesi. Bucchianico is the birthplace of S. Camillo de Lellis, the founder of the order of Chierici.
