Historical Background: On a hill next to the Tavo river, Cappelle is an agricultural village. At the beginning of the 20th century Cappelle was just a hamlet of Montesilvano. The most ancient references to the municipality dates back to the 12th century. In the 17th century the lands of its countryside were cultivated by a colony of slave. After the rule of the Figliola family it passed under the control of the commune of Moscufo. Successively it became a part of the town of Montesilvano until the beginning of the 20 th century. One of the most popular event is the “Palio delle Pupe” (Dolls’palio), a contest among the contrade (quarters) to create the best paper-pulp dolls: they participants made them parading, dancing and in the end burning.
