Historical Background: This small village is situated on a hill overlooking the Sinello river valley, and it is dominated by the presence of its wonderful castle. In this area the archaeological findings have confirmed the ancientness of Carpineto Sinello. The most ancient part of the built-up area dates back to the Italic period, as witnesses a pre-Roman settlement brought to light. The first document with the toponym carpinetam (from the Latin carpinus -hornbeam) dates back to the 12th century. It was a feud of many noble families such as the Bassi.
