Historical Background: Civitaluparella is situated on the slopes of a rocky spur overlooking the southern side of the Lupari Mountains, on the left bank of the Sangro river, between the Corvina and Lagariello valleys. Its territory has a surface of 22,51 square kilometres, including the high-hill and mountain environment. A very ancient settlement, archaeological finds may be dated 4th century b.c. Thanks to the strategic position of the ancient fortified centre, in the 15th century it was chosen as a secure shelter of Antonio Caldora, during his unlucky ventures against Ferdinad of Aragon. The ruins of the castle are still visible.
