Historical Background: Crecchio is situated on a hill next to the Arielli stream. Agriculture is the most important economic activity above all for the olive groves. Crecchio is well-known in particular for its castle dating back to the 13th century, which was shelter for many important personalities, such as the Italian Royal Family in 1943, after the armistice.The village was founded during the 9th century and became an important centre under the rule of the Anjou. As it is visible from the ruins there were six mills in Crecchio, and this maens it was an important cereals trade centre.
