Historical Background: The village lies on the eastern slope of Monte Vecchio, on the left bank of the Sangro river, with two separated built-up areas, the new and the old one. Its territory stretches on a surface of 5,40 kmq. During the 12th century the commune was called Malanotte, successively Buonanotte and only in recent times the present denomination. It was ruled by the Anicchino in the 15th century and by the Malvini-Malvezzi family of Bologna. During the 12th century the village was mentioned as Malanoctem.
