Historical Background: Lying on a green hill which overlooks the Tavo valley, Moscufo is an agricultural centre of ancient origins ( well-known for excellent wine and olive-oil production. The village was already inhabited by the Italic pre-Romans tribes, as well as the many archaeological findings of pre-Roman and Roman ages brought to light on several hamlets (S. Scolastica, Pischiarano, Astignano, Fosso Rio), while on the hill St. Giorgio rose the important town of the Vestini tribe mentioned by Sillo Italico, in the Punica (L. VII), as a very ancient town, famous for its olive groves and pastures. The first documents about the modern village date back to the 11th century; by the end of the 16th century was a feud of the Piccolomini, then of the Figliola.
