Historical Background: This small town is a seaside resort well-equipped, which hosts many tourists during Summer, coming also from foreign countries. Beautiful are the beaches, on which rises a lush pine-wood. The good accommodation services is made up mostly of hotels and campings. The toponym Pineto comes from the pine-wood stretching along the beach for two kilometres. The commune is famous for the Cerrano Tower, an ancient watchtower, today turned into a marine biology observatory. Pineto became officially a commune in the 1930’s. the former built-up area was situated on the hill and was called Mutignano.
