At the mouth of the Orfento river canyon, the historical town at the foot of the Majella can be considered as the centre of spa-tourism in Abruzzo.Caramanico is well-known for its sulphureous-water springs and sodium-bromide iodid waters, which contain an high percentage of hydrogen sulphide, particularly useful in healing rheumatic pains, season-, nervous-, skin and gynaecologic diseases, also for catarrh treating, respiratory system, digestive and urinary system. The spring waters are useful also against pancreatic diabetes and rhinitis. Next to the town there are the oligomineral diuretic waters of the Pisciarello spring.

Contra hamlet, where the first facilities were inaugurated in 1885, later destroyed during World War II. The new establishment was rebuilt next to the old one, in a wonderful natural setting.The thermal water are very good in healing several diseases limb rheumatology and pneumology. Since the beginning of the 20th century those water have been trated and used for therapeutic aims.

On the borders of the Peligna basin, at the foot of woods and rocks belonging the Sirente mountain chain, the small and charming centre of Raiano is the new name for spa-tourism in Abruzzo. Archaeological excavations in the last years have showed how the thermal water of the La Solfa springs were already used during the Roman Age. The new spa facilities of Raiano, inaugurated in summer 1999 give the opportunity of exploiting in the best way this sulphureous waters, very good in healing rhinitis through mud baths, massages, immersions.
