Historical Background: Situated on the Teramo hills, Campli bases its economy above all on agriculture and manufacturing, besides cultural tourism. Its historical centre is an hidden jewel, of great artistic interest. The village has very ancient origins, since it was built next to Campovalano, where an Italic necropolis of the Bronze Age was found. From the Renaissance onward, several noble families ruled Campli, among them the most important was the Farnese family. In the 18 th century the village was annexed to the Bourbon reign, before the political union of the Regno d’Italia. A valuable artistic centre, Campli rises on a hill between the valleys of the streams Fiumicino and Siccagno. Rich in architectonic monuments, it still preserves traces of the first building structure in the fortified and turreted Eastern gate of the 14th century. The most ancient part is characterized by the typical houses of the 16th century with dripstones and portico ground floor.
