Historical Background: The commune lies on the territory of the Majella National Park, next to the Orfento valley and the Orta river. This small town is famous for its sulphureous water springs, as a matter of fact it has been called Caramanico Terme since 1960. This thermal resort is a very appreciated destination for tourists all over the year. Its panorama is the typical landscape of the Majella communes. The name Caramanico is likely to be derived from the Longobard word Arimanna, since the centre growth in importance right under the Longobard rule. Before the devasting earthquake of 1706 it was a feud of the D’Aquino family.
