Historical Background: Castiglione Messer Raimondo is the typical commune of the province of Teramo facing the fino Valley. The village has always been an agricultural centre. Castiglione was an important place for the Vestini tribes and probably it has medieval origins. The fortified village lies on a small belvedere. The built-up area still preserves the typical structure given by the use of the local sandstone. Worth a visit is the parish church dedicated to St. Nicola di Bari, whose building began in the late 18th century on the project of a Neapolitan engineer, Francesco Giordano and was ended only during the following century.
