Historical Background: The village is situated on a hill of the Fino Valley. The origins of the commune date back to the Middle Ages The most ancient phase of the built-up area is documented by the archaeological findings of the late Roman Empire Age, when it was called Castrum Lentuli. The phase of maximum developing dates back to the Middle Ages. A feud of the Acquaviva passed successively under the Rule of the De Sterlich. In the following age a Franciscan convent was built dedicated to St. Maria del Monte, with frescoes of the 17th century in the cloister. Among the architectonic buildings should be mentioned the De Sterlich palace, built in the 17th century on a former structure. In the territory of Castilenti still can be seen the so called “ Pinciare”, peasents’ houses built with row clay blended with straw, a witness to a building technique very common in the past. It is the birthplace of Luigi Antonelli a writer of the first half of the 20th century, to whom is dedicated a Literary Prize during the month of August.

Outling Administrative Divisions: Villa San Romualdo, Casabianca, Pizzannocca.
Events, Folklore & Religious Feast: Good Friday: Passion Procession with Miserere chorus, 28th August: St. Pietro, St. Antonio and St. Vittoria’s day, Agosto: Beer festival.
