Historical Background: An agricultural centre in the Vomano river valley; it is situated at an altitude of about 430 mt and has a population of 3000 inhabitants. Many archaeological finds bear witness to its ancient origins, together with the ancient town walls. Its main artistic monuments are the parish church of St. Maria Nova, with a portal of 1424, a work of art of the Neapolitan artist Matteo De Caprio, and the bell tower built in the lower part with local stones and in the upper part in fired bricks. It preserves a fine wooden Baroque altar, with a shrine of the 1st century and a column for the Easter candle, embellished with a capital probably dated 1383. Valuable is the funerary monument to the duke Giovan Battista d’Acquaviva of the 15th century, inspired by the style of Tuscany Renaissance.
