Historical Background: Cermignano is an agricultural centre of the Vomano valley. Its origins date back to the presence of the pre-Roman tribe of the Adriatic Samnites. Many are the archaeological findings of the pre-Italic age: the ruins of an ancient Roman temple, three Italic stones and a rural settlement of the 1st century a.d. During the Middle Ages it was a feud of various families, among them the De Sterlich. One of the most important monuments is the parish church of the 16th century, with precious paintings on canvas and the church of St. Eustachio with a wooden altar of Baroque manifacturing, typical of the Cappucini monks and paintings of Giacomo Farelli (17th century). In the hamlet of Montegualtieri rises a triangular watchtower, reinforced at the base with brick-counterforts.
