Historical Background: Civitella Messer Raimondo rises on a hill on the right bank of the Verde river, an affluent of the Aventino river. The territory has a surface of 12,37 square kilometres and includes the built-up are of Calazzotto, Gallo, Selva and La Fonte. The findings of archaeological settlements in Fonte Liberatori and the ruins of a building with mosaic flooring of Roman age on the hill called Piano bear witness to the continuity of the inhabited settlements. The first references date back to the 12th century. The last feudatories of the feud were the Baglioni family, who built a noble palace after their name. The first written document dates back to the 12 th century.
