Historical Background: Colledara has an altitude of 430 mt above sea level and a population of 2100 inhabitants. The village lies on the first slopes of the Gran Sasso massif, not far away from the park district. Its origins probably date back to the Middle Ages, although many findings of the Bronze and Iron Age were brought to light. It became a municipality in 1929, before this date it was only a hamlet of Castiglione della Valle. Stretched along the Mavone valley, Colledara is made up of several centres among them the enchanting Castiglione della Valle, a village quite abandoned which preserves its structures and the ruins of the town-walls.
