Historical Background: The commune is divided into two centres, one on the hill along the Sangro river mouth, the other one on the sea. In this latter there are today’s wonderful and well- equipped beaches with the enchanting Punta of the Cavalluccio bay.Fossacesia was founded in the 9t century as a court, after the settlement of the Benedectine monks. Its history is entirely bound to the Abbey of St. Giovanni in Venere, still one of the most famous monumental abbeys in Abruzzo.
