Historical Background: Montefino has an altitude of 375 mt and a population of 1300 inhabitants. The village is situated in the Fino valley and has an agricultural economy. The first mention to this village dates back to the Middle ages. Built in the territory of the ancient Roman colony of Hatria, today’s Atri, it undertook the present name in the second half of the 19th century, replacing the name of Montesecco. On a hill dominating the middle Fino river valley, it still preserves the shape of the ancient fortified stronghold; in the upper part lies the Castello di corte, in the lower part the medieval built-up area developed in terraces, with the Acquaviva castle and a cylindric tower. Interesting is the church of St. Giacomo, with a portal of the 16th century, Renaissance shrines and a processional cross.
