Historical Background: Morro d’oro lies between the river Vomano and Tordino. In the lat decades it saw a good economic development due to the improving of small and medium industries present on the territory. The origins of the village date back to the Middle Ages. The built-up area stretches on a hill, on the left bank of the Vomano river. In the old part it is possible to recognize the fortified town-planning of the 15th century. Interesting are also some particulars, such as the stone frames and the wrought iron balustrades.Worth a visit are the churches of St. Salvatore, built in the 14th century and then restored later (terracotta statue of the Madonna dating back to the 16th century, Baroque altars and organ) and in the surrounding countryside the former convent of St. Antonio Abate(turned into a farmhouse), with a 14th-century portal. In the surroundings overlooking the Adriatic sea the abbey of St. Maria di Propezzano with a fine Gothic portal (13th century).
