Historical Background: The village is situated in the high Vomano river valley. It is thought that this area was already inhabited in very ancient times. Lying on a hill, Penna S. Andreai includes in its territory the nature reserve Riserva Naturale Castel Cerreto , interesting for the presence of an Appennine wood, at low altitude with a peculiar biodiversity , to be find in particular next to a small pond of sulphurous water. In the town planning, featured by a 19th century and modern architecture, worth a visit is the church of St. Maria del Soccorso, probably built in the 16th century; in its inside two wooden altars of the 17th century, coming from the church of St. Giusta.
