Historical Background: A small village at the foot of the Gran Sasso, it is well-known above all for its good ski runs of Prati di Tivo. The area is rich in naturalistic beauties. The first settlement was probably of Roman origins, when the shepherds lived in a hamlet called Pietra Cimmeria. The ski resorts of Prati di Tivo boast downhill and cross-country skiing runs. In the historical centre there are several stone houses of the 14th and16th centuries, some of them with original twin lancet windows; in the church of St. Leucio an interesting stone water stoup of the 16th century, decorated with fantastic water animals in relief and two golden procession crosses. The church of St. Giovanni has a small bell tower and an ancient portal dated 1626; the portal of the church of St. Rocco is more ancient (1530).
