Historical Background: The commune of Rocca St. Maria is just 27 kilometres away from Teramo at an altitude of 1074 mt, an ancient mountain village made up of 11 hamlets and less than 900 inhabitants. Its territory is rich in green grazing areas, woody slopes reaching the province of Rieti borders in the Lazio region, moreover rich in water-springs, which give life to the Tordino and Castellano streams. Among the woods of Rocca St. Maria worth a mention is Bosco Martese, a wood famous for a bloody murdering of a troop of Italian Partigiani, because of their resistance during World war II. The most famous tourist resort of Rocca St. Maria is the hamlet called “Ceppo”, in the Bosco Maltese area, where it is possible to walk in wonderful green natural settings. In winter it is possible to use the well-equipped downhill ski-run, which unwinds itself through the woods.
