Historical Background: Situated on a hill between the streams Feltrino and Rio Fontana, the village has a wonderful panorama. After the building of the Adriatica railway line, the San Vito Marina had a new development especially in summer, thanks to the wonderful beaches full of tourist. Along the coat it is possible to admire the trabocchi, typical fishing huts of Abruzzo coastline. For a long time under the rule of the Benedictine monks in the 12 th century San Vito was a feud of the St. Giovanni in Venere abbey and in the 11th century was given to the town of Lanciano. The poet Gabriele D’Annunzio lived for a long period in San Vito, in a cottage which today is called eremo Dannunziano (D’annunzio’s hermitage).
