Historical Background: Torricella Sicura is situated on the slopes of Mounts Laga and it is 7 kilometres away from Teramo town. Recent archaeological finds have brought to light the ruins of Italic temple on the peak of Mount Fano, while remains of pre-Roman walls have been discovered in Magliano da capo: all these discoveries testify the antiquity of those places. The area, once populated by brigands and Bourbon partisans, was developed about 1960 thanks to industrial and trade enterprises. This village with an uncertain toponymy (according to some people, “sicura”(safe) would derive from “oscura”(dark)); another thesis supports the opinion thet it would come back to a settlement of Siculi, at the end of 9th century) includes in its hamlets ancient Italic, Roman and Dark Ages presences, testify by a series of findings of the 19th century. In the Middle Ages it was a feud chiefs to the Dukedom of Spoleto; as from the 14th century, with the end of feudality, the country and its land were subjected to the jurisdiction of the Bishop of Teramo.
