Historical Background: Tortoreto is best known as seaside resort, with its clear seawater and its degrading sea floor. The four kilometres of wide beach with its fine golden sands invites to a pleasant holiday in perfect harmony between the sea and the green surrounding hills. The hamlet of Tortoreto Alto, with its 227 metres above sea level, represents a kind of terrace on the sea and still preserves Renaissance testimony. Indeed Tortoreto Lido is the centre of seaside tourism and it is often decorated with the Blue Flag of the European Union, thanks to the crystal clear waters of the sea. In the high area of the town is situated the Wildlife Reserve “Fonti del Vascello” where, around the lake, is developing a dense vegetation; here there are also the migratory animals, includes stock duck and stilt-bird.
