Historical Background: Villa Santa Maria is situated on the slopes of Mount Vecchio and above it there is a rocky spur most evocative. The country has a wonderful landscape with its mountains and the near Sangro lake; it is particularly famous as the cook homeland, and in all parts of the world there are chefs that have studied in the Institute of this country. The origin of the built-up area go back to the VIII century and then there was the colonization of Benedictine monks. The monks built the Saint Marie monastery, that then was destroyed and rebuilt in XIII century. The country was for a long time feud of Caldora and then of Caracciolo.
